What Is a Webhook?

A Webhook is aย notificationย sent from system A (the source) to system B (the destination) informing that someย eventย happened in system A. Setting up this process is calledย Webhook subscription.

Webhook subscriptionsย enable CommBox clients to receive notifications when certain selectedย eventsย occur within the CommBox system and send those notifications to a desiredย Webhooks events listenerย within the clientโ€™s organization.

For example, XYZ Corp (a CommBox client) wants to be notified every time a new customer is identified on the CommBox platform (an event). To accomplish that, XYZ Corp sets up aย Webhook Subscriptionย and supplies CommBox with aย Webhooks events listenerย โ€“ a URL that will receive the notifications from CommBox.

When theย eventsย that were selected as part of the webhook subscription occur, they trigger the sending of the notifications to XYZ Corp. The information sent via Webhook notification is sometimes referred to asย Payload.

Entities and Events (triggers)

Entitiesย are general categories of APIs that can have differentย eventsย associated with them.
CommBox Entities includeย Object,ย User,ย Satisfaction,ย Tag,ย Form, andย Chat.

What Are the Benefits of Webhooks?

The webhook system of notification eliminates continuous or periodic requests by the clientโ€™s APIs for updates. If changes occur, the client is automatically notified, and the notifications can be very specific to update the clientโ€™s CRM with optimal efficiency.

For example, when a new customer is identified in CommBox , the information is reported and recorded in the company’s CRM system. The Webhooks module allows for the management and creation of Webhook registrations for information that the organization wants to receive from CommBox in an accessible and easy-to-implement way.
